Mental health counseling is a new but very important component of the services we provide in our office.  Mental health counseling emphasizes prevention, is grounded in Developmental Theory (not medical model), and has a holistically focused approach, which is compatible with our approach to treating our patients.

It is very common for individuals who have been injured in an accident to experience post-traumatic stress disorder.  When PTSD goes untreated, it can have a long-term impact on the patient’s life.  In these cases, we will prescribe mental health counseling.

Accident patients are not the only ones who can benefit from mental health counseling.  Patients who desire to lose weight often have unidentified issues with food, ranging from eating disorders to eating for comfort or out of boredom.   Counseling can address these issues to help the patient develop a healthy relationship with food.

Stress is a common component in everyday life, and can lead to a wide variety of illnesses.  No matter the issues you are faced with, speaking with a licensed mental health counselor can help you to alleviate that stress, develop healthy coping mechanisms and get you on the path to maintaining good health.

Our chronic pain patients that are treating with the Neurologic Relief Centers Technique frequently suffer from depression.   Depression is diagnosed in the vast majority of fibromyalgia sufferers and chronic fatigue patients.  These patients benefit greatly from speaking to a licensed mental health counselor who can teach them ways to cope with their illness and fight through the depression that can be so disabling.

These are just some of the areas in which our mental health counselor can assist you.

In the future, we expect to be able to make mental health counseling available to our patients on-line.
